Wool Felt & Cork Desk Mat β€” 800 Γ— 400 mm

One soft surface for everything you put down.

A desk mat does two quiet jobs: it gives your hands a consistent surface to work on, and it stops everything you own from marking the desk underneath. This one is 3 mm merino wool felt bonded to a natural cork backing, edge-stitched, and large enough for a keyboard, a notebook and a cup.

Why it earns a place on your desk

  • 3 mm merino wool felt β€” soft under the wrist, dense enough to muffle keyboard noise
  • Natural cork backing grips the desk so the mat does not creep
  • 800 Γ— 400 mm: room for a keyboard plus a notebook, or a laptop and a mug
  • Bound and stitched edge that will not fray or curl at the corners
  • Works as a writing surface, a mouse pad and a protective layer in one

The details

Wool felt, not synthetic. The top is 3 mm merino wool felt, dense enough that a pen writes cleanly on a single sheet laid over it, and soft enough that your wrist is comfortable over a long session. Wool also absorbs sound: a keyboard on this mat is noticeably quieter than on bare wood, which is the sort of difference you only appreciate once you have had it.

Cork underneath. The backing is natural cork, the same reason it is used under flooring and in bottle stoppers: it grips without adhesive and it compresses slightly. The mat stays where you put it on wood, laminate or glass, and it will not trap grit against the surface beneath.

The right size. At 800 Γ— 400 mm it is generous without taking over a desk. A full-size keyboard and a mouse fit with room to spare; so does an open A5 journal beside a laptop. It is wide enough to define a working zone and small enough to leave a strip of desk visible, which is what keeps a workspace from feeling swallowed.

Built edges. The perimeter is bound and lock-stitched rather than simply cut. Felt mats that are die-cut start to curl and fray at the corners within a year; a bound edge lies flat and stays flat, and it gives the mat a finished line that reads as deliberate.

Everyday practical. Wool felt is naturally water-resistant and springs back from pressure, so it takes a coffee ring better than paper and recovers from the dent a heavy object leaves. Shake it out, or lift a corner and vacuum underneath. It also rolls up and travels, if you work from more than one desk.

Good to know

Every kexvynβ„’ piece is designed in-house and made in small runs, so materials vary slightly from batch to batch β€” grain in the oak, tone in the leather, patina on the brass. Those are the marks of real materials rather than defects, and they are why no two are identical.
