Sand-Grey Linen A5 Hardcover Journal β 192 Pages, 100gsm Dot Grid
The one you will actually finish.
A notebook only earns its place on your desk if you keep reaching for it. This one was built around that simple test: a cover that feels good in the hand, paper that takes ink without arguing, and a binding that lets the book fall open flat on the very first page.
Why it earns a place on your desk
- Lies completely flat from page one β no cracking the spine, no holding it down with your elbow
- 100gsm cream paper that resists ghosting and show-through with fountain pens, gel pens and markers
- Woven sand-grey linen bookcloth over a rigid 2.5 mm board, with softly rounded corners that survive a bag
- 5 mm dot grid printed in a low-contrast clay tone β structured enough to plan, quiet enough to ignore
- Blind-debossed kexvynβ’ wordmark on the cover: branding you feel rather than read
The details
Start with the cover. It is wrapped in a fine woven bookcloth in a warm sand-grey that sits somewhere between stone and oat. The weave gives your fingers something to hold, and unlike a glossy laminated cover it does not pick up fingerprints or scuff into white lines at the corners. Beneath the cloth is a 2.5 mm rigid board, stiff enough that you can write standing up with the book balanced on one hand. The corners are rounded rather than square, which is a small thing until the notebook has spent six months loose in a backpack.
The paper is where most notebooks lose you. We use a 100gsm cream stock with enough tooth to grip a nib and enough sizing to stop ink feathering along the fibres. Fountain pen ink dries quickly and shows its true shading; gel and rollerball inks sit on the surface without bleeding; a standard highlighter will not drag the layer underneath. Hold a written page up to a window and you will see a faint shadow on the reverse β that is honest paper β but nothing that stops you using both sides of the sheet.
The binding is sewn, not glued. Each 16-page signature is stitched to the next, so the book opens flat at any spread and stays there. That matters more than it sounds: a notebook that fights you on page three becomes a notebook you abandon by page thirty. The spine is lined and reinforced so the book keeps its shape over a full year of daily use.
Quiet details that do real work. A 5 mm dot grid, printed in a soft clay tone rather than black, gives you a grid for sketching, a baseline for handwriting and a scale for layouts β and disappears the moment you stop needing it. There is a matching elastic closure to keep loose papers in, a ribbon marker in muted grey, and an expandable pocket at the back for receipts, tickets and the scraps of paper that always seem to arrive at the wrong moment.
Made to be finished, not saved. A lot of beautiful notebooks end up untouched because they feel too good to use. This one is priced and built to be written in every day, filled up, and replaced with another β which is, we think, the point of a notebook.

Good to know
Every kexvynβ’ piece is designed in-house and made in small runs, so materials vary slightly from batch to batch β grain in the oak, tone in the leather, patina on the brass. Those are the marks of real materials rather than defects, and they are why no two are identical.
