Matte Black Aluminium Fountain Pen β€” Polished Steel Nib

A first fountain pen that behaves like a third one.

Most people who try a fountain pen and give up were let down by the pen, not the idea. This one writes on the first stroke, starts reliably after a night in a bag, and is machined from aluminium so it is light enough for a long session and tough enough to be carried every day.

Why it earns a place on your desk

  • Polished stainless steel nib, medium β€” writes smoothly straight out of the box, no tuning needed
  • Matte black anodised aluminium body: light in the hand, resistant to scratches and fingerprints
  • Takes any standard international cartridge, or the included converter for bottled ink
  • Brushed grip section with a subtle taper that keeps your fingers from sliding onto the nib
  • Spring-loaded clip that slides over a pocket lip or a notebook cover without tearing it

The details

The nib is the whole pen. We use a polished stainless steel medium nib, hand-checked for flow and alignment before it leaves the workshop. It writes with a consistent, slightly wet line that shows the shading in a good ink without flooding the page, and it starts on the first stroke after a night uncapped. Medium is the right width for most hands: fine enough for a 5 mm dot grid, broad enough to feel like handwriting rather than scrawl.

Aluminium, not brass, and that is deliberate. The barrel and cap are turned from aluminium and anodised to a deep matte black. Anodising is not a coating β€” it is a layer of oxide grown into the metal β€” so it will not chip or peel the way painted finishes do. The result is a pen around 22 g: heavy enough to feel deliberate, light enough that your hand is not tired after three pages.

Both filling systems, no compromise. Drop in any standard international cartridge if you want convenience and a clean change. Or fit the included piston converter and draw from a bottle β€” better value per millilitre, thousands of colours, and the small ritual that makes a fountain pen worth owning. The section unscrews in a quarter turn and the converter seats with a firm push.

A grip you stop thinking about. The section is brushed rather than polished, which gives just enough friction, and it tapers very slightly toward the nib so your fingers naturally settle in the right place. The cap posts securely on the back for balance without making the pen top-heavy.

Carried daily. The spring-loaded clip has enough tension for a shirt pocket or a notebook cover but not so much that it fights you, and the matte finish hides the marks a pocket leaves. This is designed as a pen you use, not one you keep in a drawer.

Good to know

Every kexvynβ„’ piece is designed in-house and made in small runs, so materials vary slightly from batch to batch β€” grain in the oak, tone in the leather, patina on the brass. Those are the marks of real materials rather than defects, and they are why no two are identical.
