A leather cover should outlive dozens of notebooks. This one is cut from full-grain cowhide, wraps around any standard A5 insert, and closes with a leather cord wound twice around the middle. When an insert is full, you swap it β the cover stays, and it looks better than the day you bought it.

The details
The leather comes first. We use full-grain cowhide, the top layer of the hide, with the natural grain left intact rather than sanded and corrected. That means small variation in texture and the occasional faint mark from the animal β evidence of what it is. Fresh from the box it is a light cognac; carried daily for a few months it warms toward a deeper amber where your hand rests and along the fold. No two covers age the same way.
It is refillable by design. Inside are two full-length pockets that take any standard A5 insert β ours, or any A5 notebook you already own. The wrap is cut a little generous so it still fits once a filled insert has swollen with use. When the last page goes, you slide in a new one and keep the cover that has already shaped itself around your habits.
A closure that will not fail. A length of the same leather is threaded through the spine and wraps twice around the middle of the book, tucking under itself to hold. There is no snap to work loose, no elastic to stretch out, no magnet to interfere with cards. It also adjusts automatically as the insert thickens.
Carry more than paper. Four card slots inside the front flap hold the two or three cards you actually need, and a full-length pocket at the back takes boarding passes, a folded map, a letter, or the loose receipts that never make it into a wallet. Everything sits inside the cover and is held by the cord.
Two inserts to start. Your journal arrives with a 96-page dot-grid insert for planning and sketching and a 96-page blank insert for writing and drawing, both on the same 100gsm cream stock as our bound journals. Refills are sold separately in packs of two.

Care
- Wipe with a dry, soft cloth. Condition with a neutral leather balm once or twice a year.
- If it gets wet, stuff with paper and let it dry slowly at room temperature β never on a radiator.
Good to know
Every kexvynβ’ piece is designed in-house and made in small runs, so materials vary slightly from batch to batch β grain in the oak, tone in the leather, patina on the brass. Those are the marks of real materials rather than defects, and they are why no two are identical.
